Climate Exposure: Projections and Scenarios for Coimbatore, Rajkot, Siliguri and Udaipur

Capacities of city authorities in four partner cities to plan and implement mitigation and adaptation measures are to be enhanced, as per the first intended outcome of the project. To achieve this, a few activities have taken place, including the study identifying climate change scenarios for 2030 and 2050.

Some of the tasks carried out under the study include:

  1. (city level and local region level), temperature – maximum, minimum, mean (including average
daily, day high and night low) and humidity (last 40 years).
  2. Based on historic data (last 40 years), forecasting for 2035 and 2050 of rainfall (city level and local region level), temperature – maximum, minimum, mean (including average daily, day high and night low) and humidity.
  3. Intensity, Duration and Frequency (IDF) curves for 2 years, 10 years and 100 years.
  4. A comprehensive assessment of additional impact on the Urban Heat Island (UHI) due to climate change and also due to other land use changes.

The outcome of the climate forecasting and scenarios study will be used to inform the city climate action plans. This information, hitherto not available with the city, will provide clarity on the type of climate change risks and the magnitude of these risks. This study will also provide the much-required context for the identification of climate vulnerable systems and populations.
